In a bid to free up resources and improve efficiency, the state government will dispose of off-road and underutilised government vehicles through auction for which disposal fairs to be organised in Porvorim, Mapusa, and Margao.

Vehicles older than 15 years will be scrapped, while those below 15 years will be auctioned.

Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the state currently has around 250 unused government vehicles, of which 34 are under 15 years old. “The government aims to dispose of these vehicles to free up resources and improve efficiency,” he said.

The Goa cabinet on Wednesday approved the plan. “The initiative will also contribute to improving road safety, reducing environmental impact, and promoting sustainable transportation,” said Sawant, while appealing to the public to report any unused government vehicles by sending photos and locations to the Chief Minister’s Office.

In other cabinet decisions, the government approved the allotment of 2,557 sqm of land to Akhil Gomantak Sidharud Sampraday Pratishthan at Rumdamol-Davorlim.

The cabinet also cleared proposals for the creation of three technical assistant posts in the Goa Energy Development Agency and four posts of psychiatrists in the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour.
