Sakhali: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday assured the residents of Bhoma that no house or temple would be demolished or endangered due to the proposed road project in the village.
The residents of Bhoma have in the past few weeks upped the ante against the proposed widening of the Bhoma-Old Goa stretch of the National Highway 748.
It has been the contention of the villagers that the highway widening project through the heart of their village would destroy their homes and temples and divide the village.
“No house or temple will be in danger. There is no need to worry,” Sawant told the residents of Madhala Wada, Bhoma, who met the Chief Minister at his Sakhali residence. Sawant also told the delegation that a joint meeting will be held in Panaji on Monday at 10.30 am to discuss the issue further and arrive at a final decision.
The assurance brought a sense of relief to the residents, who expressed their gratitude to the Chief Minister for taking their concerns seriously.
“All the issues related to the bypass will be resolved after discussions in the meeting on Monday,” the Chief Minister said.
Recently, during a public meeting, the residents of Bhoma resolved to take their agitation to New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar in a bid to draw national attention to their demand for a bypass.
