The Akhil Bharatiya Konkani Sahitya ani Sanskrutik Maha Sammelan, which aims to bring associations representing all five Konkani scripts onto a single platform and strengthen unity among them, will be held on Saturday.

The theme for the event, which will be organised and hosted by Global Romi Lipi Abhiyan (GRLA), from 9 am to 6 pm at the Ratzinger AC Hall in Verna, will be ‘Konkani Avoiche Vengent Ravumya’.

The event will feature three group discussions on whether the Sahitya Akademi’s one-language-one-script policy has benefitted or harmed the Konkani language, unity of Konkani people through literature, and unity through culture.

Participants in the discussions include Fr Mousinho Athaide, Vincy Quadros, Tara Laveena Fernandes, Adv Radharao Gracias, Prof Ramarao Wagh, Dr Glenis Mendonca, Fr Jason Pinto SDB, Roy Castelino, Fr Roman Rodrigues, Prof Dr Cosma Fernandes, Prof Stephen Quadros and Dr Prajal Sarkhardande.

The meet will also accept the flag designed by late Eric Ozario as the official flag of the Konkani language.

GRLA will felicitate personalities from different scripts across the Konkan belt. The Konkani Ratna Award will be presented to Ashok Chodankar, Tomazinho Cardozo and Patrick Kambli Moras, while the Konkani Bhushan will be conferred on Siddhanant Buyao, Wilson Mazarello and Damodar Kharvi, president of Vidyaranga Mitra Mandali. The Konkani Vibhushan, the highest award, will be conferred on Hema Sardesai, Churchill Alemao and Marcell M Dsouza.
