The heart of art

Teatro Entertainment, founded by Shaina Jagtiani and Renu Bhagwani Datta, is curating boutique experiences that engage the senses. NT BUZZ gets the details

On the two final evenings of May, Aldona came alive with the theatrical performance of ‘Aham Murakami’ by the Bayaar Theatre Group at The Project Café Goa. This was the first production staged at the café under Teatro Entertainment—a new initiative by Shaina Jagtiani and Renu Bhagwani Datta—promising boutique experiences for the senses.

Elucidating on the concept Jagtiani states that Teatro Entertainment is about curating immersive events that engage people on multiple levels. “We love storytelling and wanted to create live experiences that truly connect with audiences. Our goal is to bring performances that stay with you, move you, surprise you, and make you feel like you’re part of the story,” she says. “We hope that each evening lingers in the minds of our guests long after it’s over and makes them feel like the experience was made just for them.”

Both founders bring years of expertise to the venture. With over two decades of experience in marketing, communications, and business development, Jagtiani has worked across diverse industries, including art, fashion, hospitality, FMCG, and start-ups. Her roles at the Serendipity Arts Festival and Museum of Art & Photography further strengthened her expertise in cultural marketing and audience engagement.

Meanwhile, Datta has spent 10 years in the Indian film industry, contributing to casting, production design, and running sets. Her portfolio includes films like ‘Dil Chahta Hai’, ‘Saathiya’, ‘Bunty Aur Babli’, and ‘Ghajini’.  “We chose the name ‘Teatro’ because it means ‘theatre’ in several languages, and for us, that word captures the essence of what we do — storytelling, performance, and emotion,” Jagtiani explains. While she acknowledges that the name is similar to Goa’s traditional theatre, she hopes people will recognise its distinct form and style. “Our hope is that Teatro Entertainment will be seen as something fresh—inspired by global cultures but shaped by our local vision.”

She adds that theatre felt like the natural choice for their inaugural event. “It’s raw and rooted in storytelling, and that’s the common thread in everything we want to create. There’s something powerful about sharing a live performance with an audience,” says Jagtiani, adding that organising the production was a learning curve, revealing the importance of attention to detail, trusting instincts, and the growing demand for well-crafted, meaningful experiences.  Looking ahead, Teatro Entertainment plans to curate a diverse array of events including theatre, live music, poetry readings, dance, visual art, and food experiences. “Some will be intimate, others playful or unexpected, but each will be carefully designed with heart,” says Jagtiani. “Many people are doing fascinating work, but we hope to stand out by blending storytelling with sensory detail across art forms.”
