Claiming that there is no collapse of law and order in the state and that the police are working hard for the safety of public, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said the ongoing issue of taxi operators will be resolved at the earliest by taking all stakeholders into
confidence.
Traditional taxi operators are presently opposing the draft transport aggregator guidelines issued by the state government on May 20.
Proposing a regulatory framework to allow app-based ride-hailing services to operate in the state, the draft guidelines permit such aggregators to operate taxis using vehicles registered or permitted in Goa.
Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Wednesday said that he is open to meeting the taxi operators and other stakeholders on the taxi issue once the one-month deadline given to stakeholders for submitting objections and suggestions related to the draft transport aggregator guidelines ends.
Reiterating that the government is not against the taxi operators, Godinho said they could even launch their own app. He said the draft guidelines will be reviewed by the party and the cabinet before finalisation.
The aim is to ensure seamless transportation and curb the negative publicity Goa has been receiving over taxi-related issues, the Transport Minister said.
Godinho refused to comment on Calangute MLA Michael Lobo’s recent statement on opposition to cab aggregators from outside operating in the state.
