Civil supplies team busts unauthorised refilling op

Vasco: In a major crackdown, Verna police seized seven vehicles and around 1,000 gas cylinders following a surprise inspection at an open site in Peacock Valley, Sancoale, where illegal decanting of LPG cylinders was reportedly under way.

The inspection was carried out by the Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department following a complaint from Assistant Director Tulshidas Dhabholkar, Mormugao Taluka. Of the seven vehicles found on site, six belonged to the proprietor of Kadesh Gas Service, Pilar, while one belonged to an unidentified person.

During the inspection, officials found both BPCL and HPCL cylinders at the location. Some domestic cylinders were underweight, while non-domestic cylinders were found in unsealed condition and exceeding their standard weight. The accused allegedly carried out LPG decanting without authorisation or safety measures, posing serious danger to public life.

According to the complaint, the accused were also involved in illegal storage and transport of LPG cylinders without valid documents or permissions, thereby tampering with the regulated supply of this essential commodity.

Verna police have registered a case under Section 288 and 125 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, Section 23 of the Petroleum Act, Section 7(ii) of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, and Section 9B(b) of the Explosives Act, 1884.
