Aldona Congress MLA Carlos Alvares Ferreira has urged parents to ensure their children’s Aadhaar cards are updated on time, following a UIDAI circular asking schools and educational institutions to update children’s Aadhaar details at the ages of five and 15.

“I appeal to people to create Aadhaar cards for their children if they haven’t already and if they have to update it after they reach the age of five years and later when they reach the age of 15,” he said.

He said this is important because when students answer competitive exams, be it NEET, or JEE or any other exam, Aadhaar details
are sought.

“Even today there is a marks portal linked to the Aadhaar. You will get your certificates online and if someone wants to verify which will be able to check for authenticity. Because there are a lot of fake certificates nowadays,” said Ferreia.

He also urged parents to ensure that the names of children and parents on the Aadhaar card match those on the birth certificate, as these documents are later used to create passports.

“I’ve seen many cases where the names on the Aadhaar card and the birth certificate do not match and as a result of which people have lost six months in trying to get the certificates corrected and, in the process, have lost job opportunities abroad, delayed passports as well as opportunities to go on the ship that they’ve had to pass up on account of the documentation not being complete,” he said.
