Ecstasy, MDMA & Amphetamines found: SP
Vasco/Margao: Randox test results on samples of the 20-year-old student of BITS Pilani Goa campus, who was found dead in his hostel room, have confirmed the presence of narcotics and sedatives.
Superintendent of Police Tikam Singh Verma said three different types of narcotic substances were traced during the chemical analysis. “Police teams are investigating the source of the drugs while search operations continue at the BITS Pilani Goa campus,” he said.
According to the autopsy report, the cause of death was choking.
Sources said the intestinal sample tested positive for Ecstasy, Amphetamines, and MDMA, while sedatives were detected in the blood.
Following this, Verna police have intensified investigations at the campus. As a first step, CCTV footage was collected to understand events leading up to the incident.
Police said they are also examining his lifestyle and friend circle. Statements of faculty members and students have been recorded. “We are trying to establish facts. Though
his parents have denied claims of him being a drug addict, our investigation is progressing in all angles,” said police.
Stating that, so far, they have not found anything, Verma said they will continue the investigation and get to the bottom of the case.
The student was earlier a studying at BITS Hyderabad. The death of a friend of his had led him to suffer from depression and he was later transferred to the Goa campus, with his family also shifting.
In the past 10 months, five student deaths have been reported at BITS Pilani Goa campus. While the first three were classified as suicides, the last two, including the latest, occurred under “mysterious” circumstances. Randox reports of the first four deaths were negative, while the 20-year-old’s sample alone tested positive for drugs.
