Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday announced that the road repair work across Goa will be completed within the next 15 days as the repairs have already begun.

The announcement came after a delegation  of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)  met him and submitted over 1 lakh signed petitions collected under its ‘BJP-che Burak’ campaign, which  demanded safer roads.

A big drama unfolded on Monday outside the state legislative complex gate and later outside the Mantralaya when the police stopped the AAP MLAs – Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva – as also state AAP chief Amit Palekar and its volunteers from moving forward.

Heated arguments were heard outside the Mantralaya gate between AAP leaders and police officials.

Palekar also challenged the police to file FIRs against them for fighting against the bad roads.

After submitting the petitions, Palekar said  the delegation conveyed the concerns of one lakh families to the Chief  Minister about the problems faced by them due to the battered roads across the state. “The Chief Minister has assured us that work will begin within four days, and that potholes on various roads will be filled before Diwali,” he added.

The AAP leaders said they will monitor the progress on the issue before Diwali to verify if the assurance given by the Chief Minister is kept.
