Rs 28 crore revamp on anvil to turn Harvalem into cultural tourism hub

The Harvalem waterfall and the vicinity of Rudreshwar Temple at Harvalem are set to get a Rs 28.85 crore facelift under a central scheme.

The Centre will fund Rs 19.33 crore while Rs 9.52 crore will be spent by the state government. The project is expected to be completed
by November 2026.

Stating that the project will enhance the visitor experience while preserving the area’s natural beauty and cultural significance, the official said, “This will be achieved through infrastructural development, environmental sustainability, community engagement, and the promotion of local heritage. The project will also provide lasting economic and social benefits to the local community, creating a destination that is attractive and accessible.”

The components of the project include a grand new entrance arch for the temple with mouldings, site development including pradakshina path, rath movement, garden development with seat outs, renovation of existing steps leading to waterfall, ghat section development. Additionally, there will be complex building housing shops, chariot room, conference room with office space, dining for hall on ground floor and multipurpose hall on first floor.

The project also includes a footbridge and viewpoint for the waterfall.
