Dempo Cricket Club produced a commanding all-round display to defeat Chorao Cricket Club by 26 runs and enter the semifinals of the 4th Chandrakant Karapurkar Tournament held at the Rajendra Prasad Stadium (MCC), Margao.
Playing under lights in the opening quarterfinal, Dempo made full use of the conditions after being put in to bat. They posted a formidable 181 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs, riding on a sparkling knock from Vikas Desai.
Desai anchored the innings with a fluent 84, striking the ball cleanly to set the tone, while Somesh Prabhudessai (34) and Nishant Nagarkar (25) provided timely support. For Chorao, Deepesh stood out with the ball, claiming four wickets to prevent further
damage.
Chasing 182, Chorao never quite gathered the required momentum and finished on 155 for 8 in 20 overs. Raju Chiplekar (37) and Swapnech Velip (30) attempted to steady the chase, but regular breakthroughs pegged them back. Basappa Madar was the pick of the Dempo bowlers with three wickets, ensuring a comfortable victory.
Vikas Desai was adjudged Man of the Match for his decisive innings.
