‘Prepare for any eventuality, help others during emergencies through rescue ops’

Urging participants to take maximum advantage of
civil defence training, Superintendent of Police Francisco Corte said, “Prepare yourself for any eventuality that may arise, and be ready to help others during emergencies through various rescue operations.”

A seven-day training programme on capacity building in basic disaster management and rescue is being held at Altinho, Panaji, under the guidance and supervision of the DGP Goa, Commandant General Home Guards and Director of Civil Defence, in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The training, organised by the Home Guards and Civil Defence Office, Altinho will conclude on March 2.

Speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of  the training, Deputy Commandant General Home Guards and Deputy Director Civil Defence Ezilda D’Souza said, “You are the backbone of national security and community
resilience. This training in various fields will help
you to develop skills for safety of individuals and society with dignity.”

She also urged people to come forward and volunteer to join civil defence.

Chief Warden Mohan Deshprabhu stressed the need for preparedness.

“Over the past few years, civil defence training has increased in Goa. In today’s times, it is essential to remain active and prepare to face any disaster that may arise in our state. Everybody desires to help one another in times of emergency; however, such help to
be rendered requires proper guidance, and this is
what civil defence training is,” he said.

During the training programme, participants are equipped with various essential skills.

The sessions were conducted by subject experts including Dr Viraj V Parab, Aslesha Shetye, Juliana Lohar, Uday S Kudtarkar,  PSI Rajendra Mardolkar, John Aguiar, Rupesh Y Parvatkar,  Adv Harsha Naik, Jovito Lopes, Satyavan Gawas Instructor (fire and  emergency  service)   and staff of the Wireless Unit.

The sessions were supported by master trainers Rajen N Zore, Havildar Instructor; Dilshad Yaklashpurkar, lady home guard; and Civil Defence volunteers Adv Niti Damodar Naik Mayenkar and Omkar Gupta.
