Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday said that Fair Price Shop dealers, who play a key role in ensuring food security for beneficiaries across the state, are the “brand ambassadors” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s One Nation One Ration Card and Anna Kalyan Yojana.

Sawant was speaking at the inauguration of the Ponda Taluka Civil Supplies Office premises at the new Market Complex at Upper Bazar, Ponda. The event was followed by the distribution of compensation under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) to Fair Price Shop dealers across Goa.

“The Public Distribution System plays a crucial role in ensuring that essential food grains reach the most vulnerable sections of society and in strengthening service delivery for the people of Goa,” said Sawant.

At the event, the government distributed Rs 3.17 crore under PMGKAY to Fair Price Shop dealers.

He said the government remains committed to modernising the Public Distribution System through greater transparency, efficiency and accountability as it works towards the goal of Swayampurna Goa and Antyodaya.

Sawant also said that the government is keen to increase the commission of Fair Price Shop dealers in the near future.

The function was attended by MLA Govind Gaude, NRI Commissioner Narendra Sawaikar, Ponda Municipal Council chairperson Veerendra Dhavalikar, Kala Mandir chairman Ritesh Naik, Curti sarpanch Naved Tahshildar and Director Jayanti Tari.
