The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Saturday announced the results of its HSSC examination for the academic year 2025-26, which posted a pass percentage of 92.96, with a rise of 2.32% as compared to the last academic year’s passing percentage of 90.64.
Altogether 17,283 students – 9,080 girls and 8,203 boys – had appeared for the examination conducted in February 2016, with 16,067 of them clearing the same.
Girls performed better than the boys by registering a pass percentage of 93.93. Boys posted pass percentage of 91.89.
This year, candidates under the arts stream registered a pass percentage of 92.21, while those who answered the exam under commerce stream posted a pass percentage of 92.90. Candidates under the science stream registered a pass percentage of 93.90, while those who answered the exam under the vocational stream posted pass percentage of 92.27.
Pernem taluka posted the highest pass percentage at 95.97, while Dharbandora taluka registered the lowest pass percentage at 79.57. Similarly, Salcete taluka had maximum students numbering 3,704 appearing for the exam, while Sanguem taluka had minimum students standing at 151. Furthermore, subjects namely Sanskrit II and Banking posted 100% result.
Goa Board chairman Bhagirath Shetye, who announced the result at a press conference, said that this year 2,626 candidates had availed the benefit of sports merit marks. “Altogether 87 of them passed the examination due to the sports merit marks, with this category posting a miniscule pass percentage of 0.54,” he said.
The private candidates who appeared for the HSSC examination registered pass percentage of 42.45, while the repeaters category posted a pass percentage of 48.80.
“In all, 888 Divyang students appeared for this exam with 850 of them clearing the same,” Shetye said, adding that they registered pass percentage of 95.72.
“The Goa Board had offered these students 50% concession in examination fees,” he said, pointing out that provision of readers and writers as also question papers with magnified print were made available to them.
Furthermore, the higher secondary schools had offered 11 subjects under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) at the HSSC exam, including Automobile, Health Care, Retail, Apparel Make-Up’s and Home Furnishing, Beauty and Wellness, Construction, Media and Entertainment, Logistics Management, Tourism and Hospitality, Agriculture (Gardener) and Electronics – Field Technician.
Stating that Goa Board has not increased any fee for answer paper verification or re-valuation, the Goa Board chairman said that the last date for verified photocopy of answer paper is April 1, 2026, for which Rs 350 will be charged per subject.
“The last date for re-evaluation of answer paper is April 8, 2026, for which Rs 700 will be charged per subject,” he said, pointing out, “The last date for verification of marks in absentia is April 8, 2026, for which Rs 100 will be charged per subject.”
The students are advised to send such request through their school and the schools are to send all these requests in a single lot. No individual request from the candidates would be entertained in this respect.
The Goa Board chairman said the supplementary examination will be conducted by the Board from April 27, 2026, for those candidates who are placed in ‘Needs Improvement’ category or who have withdrawn their examination form or remained absent for examination for various reasons. He also said that those candidates who desire to improve their marks in one or more subjects may also appear for supplementary examination under the improvement of marks scheme.
It was further informed that the HSSC annual examination 2027 will tentatively start from February 11, 2027, and the detailed timetable would be notified shortly.
Goa Board secretary Vidyadatt Naik and Board deputy secretary (IT), Bharat Chopade were also present at the briefing.
