Stating that remarks made by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao describing Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai as “Judas” and a “setter” are unacceptable, GFP General Secretary Durgadas Kamat questioned whether the Congress genuinely seeks the party’s support for the upcoming bypoll campaign.
The remarks have triggered fresh tensions between the two parties ahead of the Ponda by-election, casting a shadow over opposition unity.
Kamat met Congress leader Rajesh Verenkar
and bypoll candidate
Ketan Bhatikar in Ponda
on Saturday.
“If Congress wants Vijai Sardesai to campaign in Ponda, it must first clarify its stand. Such derogatory statements cannot be ignored,” Kamat said, adding that party workers are deeply hurt by the language used. Kamat said mutual respect is essential for any political understanding, especially during elections.
