All three major projects constructed in the Cortalim constituency at the initiative of then MLA Matanhy Saldanha are either not in use or in a bad shape.

These include the T B da Cunha Sports Complex at Cansaulim, a market complex at Cortalim, and another at Zuarinagar.

Former MLA Alina Saldanha said that the sports complex at Cansaulim “lies closed and unused in spite of having several facilities, besides a football ground and stadium.”

On the Cortalim market complex, she said that the complex, consisting of shops and other sale areas besides offices, was a major project in the constituency, but a major portion of it lies unused. “The market structure has huge openings in the roof,” she added.

In a press note, she further said that the Zuarinagar market complex
“not only lies totally unused, but the structure is being ransacked by vandals who use the venue for illegal activities.”

She said that she, along with some voters from the Cortalim constituency, met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and apprised him of the situation at all three projects.

Saldanha also raised the issue of a lack of medical staff, including technicians, at the Health Centre in Cansaulim.

Concerned about the matter, the Chief Minister ordered an inspection of the three projects. Saldanha said that a day after she met the Chief Minister, a team of engineers from
the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) inspected all
three projects and noted their condition for necessary action.

Expressing deep gratitude to the Chief Minister, the GSIDC team, and the Health Officer of PHC, Cansaulim, Saldanha hoped that the three projects would be able to serve the needs of the people of her constituency.
