The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has said the LPG supply situation in Salcete is presently under control, though availability of commercial cylinders remains limited.

“Presently the situation is under control. There is limited commercial cylinder supply. We continue to receive domestic consumers’ complaints which we are resolving as and when we receive them,” a department officer from Salcete said.

The officer said that the complaints they receive mainly pertain over poor home deliveries. “We are noticing that there are delays of around two days to domestic consumers, but we are resolving them,” said
the officer.

Amid ongoing concerns among domestic consumers over cylinder supply, department officials have been assisting consumers in addressing complaints related to booking and delivery.

Consumer forum GOACAN said it has been receiving inquiries and requests for assistance related to cylinder bookings and delivery issues.

“We are also getting many cases where people are not aware of what to do. We are continuously dealing with such cases and encourage reporting cases and lodging of complaints with the civil supplies and consumer affairs taluka officers concerned,” said GOACAN convener Roland Martins.

He said there is a need to streamline the system. “In the past, we used to have meetings with the companies. But overtime, the system seems to have broken down. Now with this entire crisis, there has been a big question mark put on the system itself. It is a sort of wake up call for the companies and the Civil Supplies Department,”
he said.

Some consumers have also reported problems with bookings. A consumer from Margao said a cylinder booked through a company app had not been delivered, and that attempts to contact the agency had not received a response. The consumer said multiple bookings were reflected under the consumer number, but the cylinder and OTP were not received.
