Sanguem: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, on Monday, said healthcare facilities in Goa are comparable to those in other states, stressing that the government is focusing not only on quality medical care but also on preventive healthcare.
Speaking after inaugurating the new PHC building and dialysis centre at Sanguem, Sawant said the Sanguem Primary Health Centre (PHC) will be upgraded to a sub-district hospital for the newly carved third district, Kushavati, which will ease the burden on Goa Medical College (GMC) and the South Goa District Hospital.
“You should look at the facilities in neighbouring states, and one will classify this PHC as a district hospital rather than a PHC, as the services available are parallel to no other state,” he said.
Sawant said a trauma room will be developed to stabilise accident victims before they are shifted elsewhere.
He said patients will be able to access opinions from super-speciality doctors without travelling, as reports will be shared remotely and treatment advice provided accordingly.
He also urged parents to ensure their daughters receive the HPV vaccine, which was launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“The government is also focusing on screening and early treatment of cancer and is working towards making India tuberculosis-free through door-to-door screening,” he said.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and Minister for Drinking Water Subash Phal Dessai were also present at the function.
Earlier, Phal Dessai said the new facility will significantly improve healthcare access in Sanguem, noting that patients earlier had to travel to Margao for dialysis, which has now been addressed with a four-bedded facility.
“The government is introducing new technologies and innovations in healthcare,” said Phal Dessai, adding that efforts are underway to increase the number of ambulances, especially in interior regions, to improve early response and save lives.
