Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday said there are plans to set up a centralised command centre, in collaboration with Reliance, for collecting health data to facilitate better medical treatment for citizens.

The maintenance of hospitals and health centres will also be brought under the Goa State Infrastructure Corporation,
he said.

Stating that the government has taken special initiatives to provide quality healthcare to the common people, particularly the underprivileged, Rane said, “The government will appoint 60 new medical officers and provide 75 new ambulances to health centres across the state. Additionally, 212 sub-health centres will be equipped with 15 types of
testing facilities.”

He was speaking after inaugurating a mega medical camp at the Bicholim community health centre, organised by the health department in collaboration with the Goa Medical College  and the Dental College and Hospital.

“The operation theatres at Bicholim and Marcaim community health centres will be made functional soon,” said Rane.

“The government will issue health cards to all journalists in the state, recognising their vital role in society,” he said.

Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye, who attended the function,  appealed to the minister to provide more doctors, better health check-up facilities, and to make the operation theatre functional at the earliest.

A team of surgeons examined patients at the camp and provided necessary medical advice.

The event was also attended by GMC dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar, Dr Rupa Naik and others.
