Goa will commence its first-ever digital Census exercise from April 1, Director of Census Operations Goa, Chestha Yadav, announced on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference, Yadav said the self-enumeration phase will be open to public from April 1 to April 15, enabling the residents to submit their details online through the dedicated portal
https://se.census.gov.in

During this window, the residents are encouraged to submit their household details independently through the portal, a move designed to minimise errors and enhance data transparency. Yadav said the format is available in 16 languages, including Konkani.

Residents who opt for self-enumeration will receive a unique reference number upon completion. Yadav said that this code is essential for the verification process and must be provided to the field enumerators during their
subsequent visits.

Following the digital submission period, the House listing and Housing Census will take place from April 16 to May 15 during which period a team of 2,467 enumerators and 422 supervisors will visit households to validate and
collect information.

The digital questionnaire will consist of 33 questions covering household amenities, demographic details and socio-economic indicators. With one enumerator covering approximately 8,000 persons, the shift to the digital format is expected to significantly reduce processing time.

Yadav urged citizens to cooperate fully with the Census officials, stressing that reliable data is vital for effective governance, planning and delivery of welfare schemes.

The second phase of the Census, which will involve population enumeration, is scheduled to be conducted nationwide from February 9 to February 28, 2027.
