Pope Leo has appointed Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrao, Archbishop of Goa and Daman, and president of the Federation of
Asian Bishops’ Conferences as one of the members of the Vatican Dicastery for Communication, the Vatican body responsible for overseeing the Church’s global communication efforts.

Cardinal Ferrão’s appointment reflects the growing representation of the Indian Church in the universal Church’s leadership structures. He also serves as president of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India

The Dicastery for Communication plays a central role in shaping the Vatican’s media presence, including news, digital platforms, and public engagement. It also makes use of the connectivity and network infrastructures of Vatican City State, in accordance with the particular legislation and international commitments undertaken by the Holy See.

Cardinal Ferrão’s new role adds to his existing responsibilities and is likely to further strengthen the voice of the Indian and Asian Church in global ecclesial conversations.
