Sankhali

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the Goa government, through its newly established AYUSH Department, is committed to strengthening
medical education, research-based treatment practices and preventive healthcare initiatives.

He was speaking at the World Homoeopathy Day 2026 programme held at Sai Nursing Institute in Sankhali. The event was jointly organised by the Goa Homoeopathy Council and Shri Kamaxidevi Homoeopathic Medical College.

Highlighting developments in the healthcare sector, Sawant said that around three decades ago dialysis facilities were available only at Goa Medical College, but are now accessible at primary health centres
and private hospitals, improving healthcare reach across the state.

During the programme, homoeopathy doctors and practitioners were felicitated for their contributions to the healthcare sector. It was noted that homoeopathy, founded by Dr Samuel Hahnemann, has been serving society for over 271 years.

Sawant appreciated the efforts of Dr Bipin Salkar and the Goa Homoeopathy Council in promoting homoeopathy in the state and said the increasing focus on preventive healthcare and integrated medical approaches is a positive development.

He said the government is taking steps to promote homoeopathy and is encouraging the setting up of wellness centres in villages with financial support.

Referring to national
developments, Sawant said AYUSH services have expanded significantly
since 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the establishment of a dedicated ministry.

He added that the number of homoeopathy practitioners has increased and that such services are now available even at primary health centres, where patients are seeking treatment with confidence.

Sawant also said the ‘Check by Doctors’ initiative has received a strong response, with around 40,000 women above 40 years having undergone health check-ups, of whom 3 to 4 per cent required further medical consultation.

He urged citizens to prioritise preventive healthcare and utilise available medical facilities.
