Panaji: The central government has approved the introduction of a new Vande Bharat Express service between Bengaluru and Margao, marking a significant milestone in enhancing rail connectivity to Goa.

The decision comes after a request was placed before the Centre ahead of the Union Budget. The launch timeline and detailed schedule of the train are expected to be announced soon.

The upcoming semi high-speed train is expected to drastically reduce travel time between the Karnataka’s capital city and Goa’s commercial hub, offering passengers a faster, more comfortable and modern travel experience. The move is seen as part of the Centre’s broader push to expand the Vande Bharat Express network across key routes in the country.

Stating that this is a significant boost to Goa’s connectivity, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said, “I thank the Union government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the Bengaluru-Margao Vande Bharat, fulfilling a sincere request placed before the Union government ahead of the Union budget.”

“This is a step towards enhancing infrastructure and driving economic growth in the region.”

According to officials, the new service will not only benefit daily commuters and tourists but also give a strong boost to Goa’s tourism-driven economy. Improved connectivity is expected to increase tourist inflow, facilitate smoother business travel and strengthen regional economic ties.
