Panaji: Old Goa police have arrested a Panaji resident and detained two minor girls in connection with the theft of gold ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh.
Police said a complaint was lodged by a 53-year-old woman from Carambolim stating that the incident had occurred prior to May 1, 2026.
Police said that Rafiq Shaikh, along with a child in conflict with law (CCL-1), allegedly brainwashed another minor girl (CCL-2) into handing over gold ornaments on the pretext of performing religious rituals. The accused allegedly dishonestly obtained the ornaments on different occasions.
The gold ornaments belonged to the complainant, while CCL-2 was known to her, police said. Further investigation is in progress.
