Panaji: Petrol prices in Goa crossed the Rs 100 per litre mark on Tuesday after the Centre effected a 90 paise increase, the second hike in less than a week.
At fuel stations across the state, petrol is now retailing at Rs 100.40 per litre, while diesel is priced at Rs 92.17 per litre, said Goa Petrol Pump Dealers Association (GPDA) president Narhar Thakur. He added that rates were revised from midnight on May 19 as soon as oil marketing companies implemented the change.
The current retail price of high-speed petrol stands at Rs 109.29, Thakur said.
“Fuel price hikes were inevitable due to the deepening oil crisis,” said petrol pump owners in the state, adding that further increases cannot be ruled out if global crude oil conditions do not improve. Oil marketing companies had earlier raised petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre on May 15.
The GPDA said Goa has sufficient stock of petrol and diesel and there is no shortage of fuel in the state. It urged residents not to panic or resort to hoarding in response to the price rise. The association added that fuel inventory is maintained for around 15 days and is regularly replenished.
The GPDA also appealed for fuel conservation through measures such as carpooling and reduced unnecessary travel.
Goa has around 146 petrol pumps, including 56 operated by BPCL, 40 by HPCL and 50 by IOCL.
