Citizens from Curchorem intensified their demand to make the town the headquarters of the third district, Kushavati, stating that the town offers better connectivity, healthcare, infrastructure and accessibility for people from surrounding areas than any other location.
Addressing a press conference at ASN Hall, Curchorem, citizen Pradip Kakodkar stated that while some citizens from Quepem were demanding that Quepem town be made the headquarters on historical grounds, convenience for the common public should be the deciding factor.
“We have already conveyed to the government, especially Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the plus points of Curchorem town,” he said.
Kakodkar said that Curchorem has road, railway and waterway connectivity and serves as a central location for residents of Molem, Dabal, Kalay, Colem, Sanguem and Sanvordem.
He added that Curchorem has a government hospital comparable to a district hospital, along with six private hospitals, while Quepem has none. He also pointed to the presence of a fire station catering to nearby areas and a bus stand.
Kakodkar also said the newly opened municipal building has the capacity to accommodate several government offices.
South Goa ZP chairman Sidharth Gauns Desai stated that the demand was not linked to any political party but reflected public opinion across party lines.
Former chairperson Pradip Naik and Curchorem BJP block president Manojkumar Naik highlighted various points supporting the demand.
The press conference was attended by workers
of various political parties, including Pushkal Sawant, Balkrishna Hodarkar, former councillor Rucha Vast, Amar Naik, Mukund Naik, Ali Shaikh and others.
