Sankhali/Bicholim

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday inaugurated a free bus service for students in the mining belt and rural areas of North Goa under the District Mineral Fund (DMF). The launch took place at six locations in Bicholim taluka.

Sawant said the government is committed to ensuring regular and safe transport for students in remote regions and that similar services will be extended to South Goa. The service is intended to ease travel for students, replacing the earlier system operated by mineral companies.

Sawant said the buses are intended to help students from villages, especially from mining-affected areas, attend higher secondary schools and colleges. “The buses will operate twice daily according to school timings. A pass system will be introduced but students will not be charged,” he said.

Later, the Chief Minister handed over house keys to Sita Shiva Shet and her family. The house was
constructed by Sateri Sangh Kumbharwada-Mayem
to provide them with shelter. Sita Shet thanked the Sangh and the MLA for the support.

“The government is contributing its best in every sector. We appeal to everyone to ensure that such initiatives are not misused,” the Chief Minister said.
