Goa recorded 217 road accidents in April 2026, resulting in 24 deaths and injuries to more than 100 persons, states the latest monthly accident report of the Directorate of Transport.

The report said that
23 of the accidents were fatal, claiming 24 lives. South Goa recorded 14 fatal accidents, while North Goa reported nine.

Of the total accidents, 17 were classified as grievous, 58 as minor and 119 as non-injury accidents.

A total of 22 persons
sustained grievous injuries and 89 suffered minor injuries. South Goa accounted for 13 grievous injuries and 44 minor injuries, while North Goa recorded nine grievous injuries and 45 minor injuries.

The data showed that two-wheeler riders continued to be the most vulnerable road users. Of the 24 fatalities reported during the month, 18 were riders, including 12 in South Goa and six in North Goa.

Three pillion riders also lost their lives.

The remaining fatalities included one pedestrian, one passenger and one person classified under the “other” category.

Transport officials expressed concern over the high number of deaths involving motorcycles and scooters. An official said there is a need for greater adherence to traffic rules, use of protective gear and responsible driving to reduce fatalities on the state’s roads.
