Reflecting that Goans are environmentally conscious, the state set a Golden Book of World Records for the highest number of people pledging for environmental protection in a single day.
More than 1,500 Goans took the environment pledge in an event organised by EP Biocomposites Ltd in association with the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, along with the Sports Authority of Goa.
Golden Book of World Records’ Asia head Dr Manish Bishnoi said that the record has been set by more than 1500 people taking the environment pledge simultaneously. “The exact record achieved will be officially confirmed after the drone footage verification,” he said.
Students, teachers, government officials, dignitaries, environmental enthusiasts and citizens came together to pledge their commitment towards protecting the environment and building a cleaner, greener and safer future.
The organisers appreciated the state Education Department for facilitating participation from schools. The Forest Department also extended its support by providing 500 fruit-bearing saplings which were distributed to participants following the event.
EP Biocomposites’ founder and managing director Rajkumar Kamat said, “The world record is not merely about numbers. Personal Social Responsibility is a movement where every individual becomes a guardian of the planet. Our mission has always been to build a cleaner, greener and safer world through sustainable solutions.”
Environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar was the guest of honour and gave the pledge to the participants. SAG executive director Ajay Gawde dedicated the record to the people of Goa.
