They beat England by seven wickets to lift their seventh Women’s T20 World Cup title
London: Australia underlined their dominance in women’s cricket by defeating hosts England by seven wickets to clinch a record-extending seventh ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title here on Sunday.
Chasing 151, Australia completed the task with ease in 17.1 overs as captain Sophie Molineux lifted her maiden ICC trophy as skipper.
Phoebe Litchfield starred with a fluent 48 off 35 balls before Beth Mooney anchored the chase with a composed 64 off 49 deliveries. The duo added 100 runs for the second wicket in just 69 balls to put Australia firmly in control after an early setback.
Litchfield struck six fours and two sixes, while Mooney reached her half-century off 38 balls and ensured there were no late hiccups as Australia raced to 100 by the halfway stage of the chase.
Earlier, England managed 150 for four after opting to bat, with captain Nat Sciver-Brunt remaining unbeaten on 58 off 53 balls. Freya Kemp chipped in with an unbeaten 44 off 28 deliveries as the pair shared an 80-run fifth-wicket stand to rescue the innings.
Australia’s disciplined bowling attack, led by Molineux (1/32), kept England in check throughout. Georgia Wareham conceded just nine runs in two overs, while Kim Garth and Annabel Sutherland maintained tight lines to restrict the hosts to a below-par total.
