Pundalik Naik to be honoured as Konkani drama contest turns golden

Kala Academy Goa is celebrating the golden jubilee of the Konkani Drama Competition on July 10 at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir, Panaji.

The symposium on the topic ‘Samakalin Bhartiya Rangbhoomir Konkani Natak’ will be held at 3 p.m at Black Box with participation of theatre personalities Dr. Jayanti Naik, Vasant Bhagwant Sawant, Nilesh Mahale and Dr. Narayan Kharade. Shridhar Kamat Bambolkar, will be the chief conductor for the symposium.

The main function will be held at 5 p.m. On this occasion, playwright Pundalik Narayan Naik will be honoured with Jeevan Gaurav Puraskar in recognition of his outstanding and lifelong contribution in the field of Konkani theatre and literature.

Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant will grace the function as chief guest while minister for art and culture Ramesh Tawadkar will be the guest of honour. Chairman, Kala Academy, Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar will preside over the function in the presence of vice-chairman of Kala Academy, Dr. Pravin Gaonkar; chairman of Goa Konkani Akademi, Dr. Purnanand Chari; and member secretary of Kala Academy, Shankar B. Gaonkar.

Similarly, 30 artists under different categories will be felicitated. These include Pramod Mhadeshwar, Nilesh Mahale and Sushant Nayak for Direction and Dr. Prakash Vazrikar, Dr. Jayanti Naik, Mukesh Thali, Zilu Gaonkar, Vasant Bhagwant Sawant, Deepraj Satordekar, and Dr. Rajay Pawar for Playwright. For Acting, Mayur Mayenkar, Tulshidas Dhonshikar, Venkatesh Gaunekar, Prashant Satarkar, Shekhar Usgaonkar, Sukanti Nayak, Madhuri Shetkar, Gauri Kamat, Manuja Shet Narvekar Lokur, and Khushboo Kavlekar will be felicitated. Other categories include Siddharth Halarnkar and Vasudev alias Vikas Chopdekar for Light Effects, Sachin Chowgule and Dilip Vaze for Background Music, Premanand Polle and Eknath Naik for Make-Up, Geeta Bambolkar and Natasha Mahale for Costumes, and Kiran Naik and Yogesh Kapdi for Stage Setting.

Folllowing this, prizes will be given to the winners of Konkani Drama Competition. This will be followed by the presentation of the Konkani play ‘Pipal Petla’ written by Pundalik Narayan Naik and directed by Prof. Deepak Amonkar. It will be presented by Repertory Company, Kala Academy.
