Panaji: The state government has launched the Divyan Kaushal Yojana, a scheme to provide financial assistance to non-government organisations (NGOs), government organisations and trusts to run vocational training and day care centres for adults with disabilities aged above 18 years.
Adults with disabilities will be trained to make a range of products and articles at the vocational centres and the income generated from the sale of these products will be given to them. “The launch of the Divyan Kaushal Yojana marks a significant step towards empowering adults with disabilities by creating opportunities for lifelong learning, skill development and economic participation,” State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Guruprasad Pawaskar said.
The scheme aims to provide meaningful engagement and skill development for adults with disabilities who remain at home after completing their schooling.
“Many persons with disabilities have limited opportunities for meaningful engagement after completing their schooling. The scheme seeks to address this. It will also enable beneficiaries to earn from the products they make,” he said.
Pawaskar said that the scheme also aims to promote dignity, confidence and financial independence, while ensuring that adults with disabilities have access to quality day care and vocational services, thereby providing support to families and caregivers.
