Panaji: Alleging that the Opposition was staging protests to create the impression that the Modi government was inactive, BJP state president Damodar Naik on Thursday said the Central Government had acted swiftly in the NEET examination case by forming a Special Investigation Team, leading to the arrest of the accused, who are now in jail.
Naik further stated that reforms had been introduced to strengthen the examination system, with the National Testing Agency (NTA) handling the conduct of NEET to ensure greater transparency.
“Strict punishments, including imprisonment and fines of up to Rs 1 crore, were in place for those involved in examination malpractices,” Naik told reporters, while accusing the Congress of spreading a misleading narrative.
The BJP-led government, he said, remained committed to safeguarding the future of students.
“Examination paper leaks were not a new phenomenon. Such incidents had occurred in the past as well,” said Naik.
Meanwhile, Public Works Minister Digambar Kamat hit out at the Congress leadership for staging protests outside the Prime Minister’s residence in Delhi. He called the move “an irresponsible political stunt”.
Kamat told reporters that marching towards the PM’s residence and blocking roads in the national capital went against democratic norms.
He also said the government had explicitly offered to discuss the examination issue in Parliament under any rule, but Congress leaders had avoided a formal debate out of fear of being exposed.
Kamat highlighted Modi’s global popularity and public standing, alleging that Opposition leaders were organising street protests solely to tarnish the government’s image instead of genuinely addressing students’ concerns.
