MES College triumph in taekwondo

MES’s Vasant Joshi College of Arts and Commerce, Zuarinagar continued their dominance in university taekwondo, winning the Inter-Collegiate Taekwondo Men’s Championship for the fourth consecutive year.

The championship, organised by Goa University, was held at the SAG Multipurpose Indoor Stadium, Peddem, on August 18 and 19. Don Bosco College, Panjim finished runners-up, while Government College of Commerce and Economics, Borda, Margao took third place.

Sanjay Rathod of MES College was named the Best Taekwondo Player of the Championship.

MES College also collected gold medals across several weight categories. Prakash Rathod won the up-to-54kg category, Pranit Manerekar the up-to-63kg, Anil Goundar the up-to-68kg, Nakul Narvekar the up-to-87kg and Ayaan Ladkhan the above-87kg category.

Rajvir Yadav of Don Bosco College won the up-to-74kg category, while Mohammad Huzaifa of Government College, Borda claimed gold in the up-to-80kg category.

Sagar Palaconda, Director of Physical Education and Sports at Goa College of Agriculture, Old Goa, was the chief guest at the presentation ceremony. Taekwondo coach Theophile Lowe was the guest of honour, while Goa University Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sports Balachandra B. Jadar was also present.

The winners were presented with medals and trophies at the conclusion of the championship.
