Panaji: AAP Goa president Valmiki Naik has questioned why 97 voters whose re-addition to the electoral rolls was approved by officials under the Goa Chief Electoral Officer were not restored, and alleged that the centralisation of the process had undermined the authority of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs).
Naik alleged that the issue could be “just the tip of the iceberg” and claimed that voters who did not support the BJP could have their names deleted. He reiterated AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal’s demand for the arrest and prosecution of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
AAP Ponda Assembly president Geetesh Naik said around 5,000 voters in Ponda had been deleted from the rolls and questioned the process for restoring names. He also alleged that Booth Level Officers had not carried out their duties diligently.
AAP vice-president Manuel Cardoso said every Indian had a democratic right to vote. He also raised concerns over the impact of voter-list deletion on access to Mediclaim and other requirements.
The leaders demanded that the Special Intensive Revision process be scrapped and the three-year-old voter list restored.
