The state government is working on a system to provide home healthcare services to bedridden patients, stroke survivors and people with memory loss, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said on Wednesday.
Rane was speaking at the Nari Shakti celebration under the ‘Angan Ki Seva’ programme at Saligao.
“Healthcare staff, including physiotherapists from the Health and Women and Child Development (WCD) departments, would visit patients at home once or twice a week,” he said.
The initiative is being planned in coordination with the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister. The government also intends to map patients panchayat-wise through local
MLA offices to identify those requiring care and provide them with the necessary services.
Rane said families should not have to spend Rs 500 or Rs 1,000 to hire informal caregivers for patients who need regular assistance.
He also announced plans for a dedicated screening centre and health centre in the Saligao constituency.
Rane said that even his family depends on Goa Medical College (GMC) for medical care, despite his position in the government. He cited this to emphasise that government healthcare facilities provide medical services to citizens irrespective of their background.
