The state government has made health and fitness certificates mandatory for consignments of live poultry birds entering the state. It has directed that every consignment comply with animal transportation rules to ensure the safe and humane movement of birds.
Director of the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services Dr Nitin Naik issued a notification recently stating that poultry consignments entering the state will not be allowed if the required conditions are not met.
The government has also directed transporters to carry all documents, permits, certificates and records required under the applicable laws. These must be produced for inspection whenever demanded by the competent authority.
The notification states that poultry must be transported in a manner that ensures humane handling and reduces overcrowding, injury, distress and the risk of disease transmission.
Consignments that fail to meet these requirements will not be allowed to enter the state.
Any violation of the directions will invite appropriate action under the law.
