14th Pratidhwani Classical Music Festival on March 15

The 14th edition of the Pratidhwani Classical Music Festival, organised by Swastik Cultural Association, Panaji, will be held on March 15 at the Black Box, Kala Academy, Panaji. The festival is dedicated to the memory of the late Francis Rodrigues, remembered as Goa’s only Catholic Hindustani classical vocalist.

The festival will begin at 9 a.m. and will feature performances by several Goan artistes who will pay musical tribute to the late vocalist. As part of the tradition of the festival, Christaline Rodrigues, mother of the late Francis Rodrigues, will be felicitated and presented with financial assistance during the inaugural ceremony.

The morning session will commence with a Hindustani classical vocal recital by Ashwini Abhyankar, a student of Sanjeevan Music Academy, accompanied by Shashank Upadhye on tabla and Gopinath Gawas on harmonium. This will be followed by a harmonium solo by Nanda Kalangutkar, faculty at Sanjeevan Music Academy, accompanied by Rohidas Parab on tabla. After the inaugural ceremony, Namrata Joshi, faculty of classical vocal at Sanjeevan Music Academy, will present a vocal recital accompanied by Sarang Kerkar on tabla and Vasant Gaonkar on harmonium. The morning session will conclude with a vocal recital by Harshal Mestry, also a faculty member at Sanjeevan Music Academy, accompanied by Anish Kondurkar on tabla and Prasad Gawas on harmonium.

The evening session, beginning at 4 p.m., will feature a Kathak dance presentation by Hasti Gajjar, faculty of Kathak at Sanjeevan Music Academy. This will be followed by a sitar recital by Pt. Vinayak Chittar, faculty of sitar at the academy, accompanied by Dr.Uday Kulkarni on tabla. The festival will conclude with a Hindustani classical vocal recital by Dr.Pravin Gaonkar, accompanied by Amar Mopkar on tabla, Subhash Fatarpekar on harmonium, and Wasim Khan on sarangi.
