The Rotary Club of Panaji has partnered with ASG Eye Hospital, Goa, to launch a statewide initiative for the early detection of Diabetic Retinopathy and Glaucoma.
As part of the initiative, the Rotary Club of Panaji has donated a ‘Remidio Fundus-on-Phone’, an AI-enabled portable retinal imaging device, to ASG Eye Hospital. The device will be used exclusively for free community eye screening camps across Goa and will not be used by ASG Hospital for any commercial or revenue-generating purposes.
The portable device captures high-quality retinal images and uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to identify early signs of diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma, enabling faster screening and timely referral for specialist care. ASG Eye Hospital plans to conduct around 40 outreach screening camps annually, including village camps, corporate programmes and community health initiatives, with a target of screening over 10,000 Goans every year. Patients identified with retinal diseases or glaucoma during the camps will be referred to ASG Eye Hospital for comprehensive evaluation and treatment. Speaking on the occasion medical director, ASG Eye Hospital Goa, Dr. Sean Socrates D’Silva, said, “Early detection is the key to preventing irreversible vision loss. This partnership allows us to take advanced eye screening directly into communities, ensuring that patients receive timely diagnosis and treatment before permanent damage occurs.”
Rotary Club of Panaji president, Rtn. Prashant Kaisare, Past Rotary District Governor Rtn. Gaurish Dhond, along with several other Rotary dignitaries, were present on the occasion.
