The Department of Tourism, Government of Goa, commemorated Shiv Jayanti with a cultural presentation titled ‘Shivshahichi Garjana’ at Shree Bodgeshwar Ground, Mapusa. The mega production, mounted on a revolving stage and performed by over 150 artistes, brought alive the life, valour and enduring legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a powerful and immersive format.

Minister for Tourism, Information Technology, Electronics & Communications and Printing & Stationery Rohan A. Khaunte stated, “‘Shivshahichi Garjana’ is a tribute that brings alive the extraordinary journey of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, especially his connect with Gomantak and its people. This is heritage presented with scale, substance and pride.”

Managing director GTDC Kuldeep Arolkar said “This production was conceptualised to ensure that history is experienced, not just narrated. Our focus remains on delivering cultural programmes of high calibre that honour legacy while elevating the standards of public events in Goa.”

Deputy speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly and MLA, Mapusa constituency Joshua D’Souza, chairperson MMC Priya Mishal, assistant director GTDC Jayesh Kankonkar, deputy general manager (Hotels & Marketing) Deepak Narvekar, along with Sarpanches and Zilla Panchayat members were also in attendance.

The drama emphasised on the travel of Shivaji Maharaj to Goa, his historic connection with Goa and its people, portraying episodes that highlighted strategic foresight, administrative brilliance and his deep engagement with coastal regions. The role of Shivaji Maharaj was portrayed by Shantanu Moghe, while the character of Jijamata was enacted by Alka Kubal.

300 drones illuminated the sky with image formations of the Bhagwa flag, Raigad fort, coronation of Maharaj, among other historic motifs.
