On the occasion of the 63rd National Maritime Day, Dalgado Konkani Akademi (DKA) in collaboration with National Maritime Day Celebration Committee, Goa, organised the book release of  ‘Nouchalok ani Tachi Kola’ by author Capt. Eddie Viegas, at the hands of Governor of Goa Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, at a book release function at Ravindra Bhavan, Vasco.

Also present on the occasion were president of IMEI, India, presiding officer Kaushik Seal as guest of honour, Dy. chief surveyor cum – Sr. DDG (Tech), MMD, Goa Sudhir Kumar Shrivastava, director, Institute of Maritime Studies, Bogda, Vasco Da Gama Shivram Kamat and DKA president Fr. Myron Jeson Barreto.

The book aims to introduce readers, especially students and aspiring seafarers, to the basic concepts and skills involved in navigation and elements of shipping in Roman
Konkani language.

“It is with the idea of trying to fill in the vacuum of knowledge that this book will help the inland vessel’s crew and those that manage them, to understand their functions in a more responsible manner, that this humble attempt is being made to write this book in our own mother tongue, Konkani,” said
the author.

Barreto in his address said, “Choosing to write in Roman Konkani is like anchoring ourselves to our roots while still sailing confidently towards the future. Through this book, the author has nurtured and preserved the very soul of our language.”

The book is available for sale at Dalgado Konknni Akademi, Panaji.
