TIATR REVIEW JP Pereira

Written by Menino Mario, this new tiatr directed by Risma Fernandes, revolves around a group of teenagers, Cynthia, Shanaya, Savana, Sweety and Daisy, who are so busy with their friends and mobiles that they tend to ignore their loved ones.

The group share their joys and sorrows, complain against their parents and are mostly on mobiles, planning parties and dates. Daisy is the only one who has some sense, trying to convince her friends about studies and love for parents. A teacher tries to help these youngsters to change their ways, recounting her tragic past. There is also Mari Santan who runs a food cart, outside the campus with her brother Jack, who is also a student. A migrant woman also tries to compete with the food cart owner! The story also includes a music teacher who speaks with a rhythm, reminiscent of a character played by the late Jose Rod.

Parallel to this is another tale of Ruzar, a poor labourer, who loves his daughter Cynthia and pampers her in every way. The girl keeps on asking for money which she spends on friends to show that she is from a rich family. One day, the father comes to meet her and she is embarrassed. Tragedies happen! Go and watch the tiatr to know the rest, as it moves to the climax with a fine message to all.

The script has some good dialogues and plenty of advice for the modern generation. The importance of parents and the misunderstanding by children is highlighted. There is some good comedy and many nice songs backed well by a band of young musicians. Sunny provides lights to sets by Ambajim. The stage is managed by Chris and Joliton. A fine cast of many new artistes, impress. Jelvy Furtado plays the teacher, showing love and understanding, while being firm with the students. Reema D’Souza does well as Cynthia, the daughter of Ruzar, played very well by Hortencio Pereira. Sanifa Rodrigues plays Daisy, the student with a kind and helpful heart. Melisha Baptista, Jayde Ferrao, and Edeva Fernandes are fine as the other students. Lusiano Rodrigues plays the principal of the institution and is very convincing. Snolan Rodrigues is another student. Chris Fernandes does well as the doctor and later as the security guard. Bladwin does some amusing entries and Fiona is the amusing owner of the food cart. Joelito Dias is her brother while Allwyn Colaco does well as the music teacher with rhythm. Risma Fernandes is the migrant ‘pan
eating’ woman.

The band has Josny Fernandes (trumpet), Roneber Vales (saxophone), Joylen Pereira (drums), Ashley Fernandes (bass), and Khrisler Colaco (keyboards). The opening is rendered by Ediva-Sanifa-Jelvy-Reema-Melisa-Jayde. They return for more songs later. There are other songs by Lusiano, Snolan, Risma, Bladwin, and others. Antush D’Silva rendered a solo only for this show. The little Ginel Rodrigues sings a nice solo and Jose Mascarenhas’ solo on certain rituals is superb. He also returns for a touching duet with Melisha. A solo by Francis de Tuem, on safety for women, has some sound advice to the authorities. This tiatr has to be watched.
