‘Assagao, My Muse’, is a special collection of paintings of the village’s landscape and people by Goan artists

A group of Goan artists are presenting a special collection of their art until May 16 at the Victor D’Mello Community Centre (VDCC), Assagao. This is part of the ‘Summer Fest 2026’ programme being organised across Assagao by the VDCC for May.

The collection is titled ‘Assagao, My Muse’ brings together works by artists Vinay Prabhu Mhambre, Bazil Mota, Marrisa Pinto, and Saiesh Humraskar. Developed over several weekends, the collection is the result of plein air painting sessions conducted in and around Assagao across March and April 2026. The artists painted on location to capture the village’s natural and architectural character.

Mhambre and Mota are showcasing a series of watercolour paintings inspired by Assagao’s streetscapes, homes, and everyday scenes. Their works reflect the immediacy of painting outdoors, focusing on light, atmosphere and the subtle details that define the village’s visual identity.

Humraskar presents a collection of caricatures depicting residents and local personalities, offering a more personal and human perspective of Assagao through expressive and often humorous interpretations.

The exhibition highlights the aesthetic and cultural richness of Assagao. It also serves as a quiet tribute to the village in its current form which in recent years has seen rapid changes, with new businesses and evolving lifestyles gradually reshaping its character. The exhibition, in this sense, becomes both a celebration and a record of a place in flux.

Also participating at this special exhibition is Manuela Mendonça Gomes. Her contribution are watercolours of Assagao’s deep connection with nature as the ‘Valley of Flowers’.
