‘Budhvont Jaki’

The new tiatr written by Com. Agostinho and directed by Com. Joyel narrates a beautiful tale of love that should exist in every family.

Emma and Gabriel, an elderly couple, live with Violet their widowed daughter-in -law and their infant grandson. Violet’s husband passed away in an accident six months after their wedding and to support the family, she has to work. The grandparents look after her son. Asher, her work colleague is secretly in love with her but is apprehensive to share his feelings as she might refuse. Instead, he approaches the parish priest to talk to Violet. She agrees, but is worried about her in-laws. Watch the rest on stage, as the touching but enjoyable story moves to its beautiful climax with the entry of more interesting characters like Thomas and Yuri, in the second half.

This is a nice script which has been directed well with the actors playing their roles perfectly. The twists in the tale are depicted very well and the costumes are appropriate. Ratna provides the light effects to sets by Anthony de Ambajim. The cast has Dolla playing Emma, who is very expressive in her role as the grandmother. Tracy is Violet, and displays beautiful emotions in every act. Pradeep Naik is Gabriel. He lives the character especially in the second half, as age catches up and disappointments increase. Creto plays Asher while Aaron does well as the priest. Benny de Aldona is Thomas, the rich man, and the young Jenoy is Yuri, the smart and charming grandson with lots to tell. Evaristo is the arrogant rich man. There is good clean fun from Aveena, Joyel, and Filipe, who makes a comeback after many years. The three have entries in the main story also, and provide good fun.

Selwyn (trumpet) leads the fine band that has Rayen (trumpet), Elrich (drums), Casmiro (bass), and Joel (keyboard). The opening song has Jenoy dressed as a clown and doing the ‘hula hoop’ very well. There are other songs from Dolla, Evaristo, Benny de Aldona, Tony de Ribandar, and others. Creto renders a nice amusing solo with some imitations of various singers. Don’t miss this interesting and enjoyable show.

‘Dudhachea Dobeant’

Saby de Divar presents a tale of women, some who are heartless while others are loving and caring. There are many clashes and the solution is quick. That makes it interesting!

Roy is married to Natasha and Rick, to Hazel. The two brothers live in the same house and the entire family is quite happy. But then evil enters in the form of Dolly, Natasha’s mother and has greed in her heart. With a sob story that she was cheated, she manages to convince the foursome to let her live in the house. Soon she begins convincing her daughter, who agrees with the mother without a second thought. Both plan against Hazel, who was deserted and looked after in an orphanage. But she is blessed and all plans of the wicked duo, are foiled. The two become desperate. One day, Roy, who had gone abroad to work, returns home with some shocking news. The play moves on with more evil plans. But does goodness always win?

A well depicted tale, the narration continues with some interesting twists. There is humour, which is at times crude, but the audience had a great time. The songs are interesting and there is a fine band to back the songs. Dinesh provides the light effects. The cast has Dolly as the woman who tries to destroy the loving family, evil and at times humorous. Rioma plays her daughter Natasha, enjoying parties and plotting. In contrast, Joylixa impresses with a beautiful and touching performance as Hazel, the calm and confident orphan girl. A fine dress sense too, as the role demands. There is Franky as Roy and Vilbern as Rick, doing well in their roles. Zia, Ciana, and others play minor roles. The comedy has Jade, David, Myron, and Raymond, dishing out the funny parts.

Nolvert (trumpet), Jayne (saxophone), Seban (bass), Callistus (keyboard), and Aushmin (drums) form the band. The opening is a duo rendered well by Zia with Ciana. There are more songs by Seby de Divar, Rioma, Ciana, Joylixa, Lawry, Ashliff Correia, Myron, David, and others. A duet from Joylixa with Seby, a duo by Ciana with Rioma, and a nice tribute to the erstwhile trio kings by Joylixa-Rioma-Ciana stand out.
