The results of the Hi Povitr Raat @ Christmas 2025 Singing Competition were announced recently, marking the culmination of a unique, year-long, community-driven musical initiative centred on the Konkani rendition of the Christmas carol ‘O Holy Night’.
The competition invited singers of all ages and backgrounds to interpret ‘Hi Povitr Raat’ with sincerity, musical sensitivity, and respect for the song’s emotional depth.
Participants included children, solo adult singers, vocal groups, and contributors from across Goa, Mangaluru, Dubai, New Zealand, and Indonesia.
In the children’s category the top rankers were Abiel Borges from Curtorim, Nicole Gomes from Marcela, Charisha Pereira from Quepem, and Freida Lobo from Tivim.
In the adults (solo) category, the five toppers were Joyce Mascarenhas Music from Mangaluru, Monica Fernandes from Merces, Jossie Mascarenhas from Mangaluru, Simraaj Fernkaar from Vasco da Gama, and Crispino Faria from Chicalim. The adults (group) category top rankers were Bogmalo Parish Choir, Chicalim Church Choir, Grace Notes Choir (Sanquelim), Joyful Messengers (Loutulim), and SEMIBREVE (Navelim).
The competition also featured two curated non-competitive sections. Special Renditions – Beyond Rankings highlighting sincere musical contributions that reflected courage, cross-cultural participation, and community spirit, including entries from outside India.
Featured Artist Renditions section showcased invited performances by prominent artists who shared their interpretations as a gift to the season. Aurvile Rodrigues from Margao, Myron Estibeiro from Macasana, Claniffa Almeida from Panaji, and Lloyed Pereira from Dubai, shared their renditions in the
latter category.
Music lovers are now invited to suggest carols for the next Christmas contest.
