Calangute Association marched into quarters in the 1st Vedanta Trophy with a 3-0 win over Arpora Sporting at the Chowgule ground, Mayem on Monday.
After a goalless first half, Joshua D’Souza opened the scoring in the 50th minute, followed by Pedro Gonsalves and an own goal by Waldron Martins. Calangute dominated the second half to seal the win. D’Souza earned the Man of the Match award, while three players received yellow cards during the match.
After a goalless first half where both sides created chances but failed to convert, Calangute returned sharper in the second half. Joshua D’Souza finally broke the deadlock in the 50th minute with a well-taken finish. Just three minutes later, Pedro Gonsalves doubled the lead to put Calangute firmly in control. The third came shortly after, when Arpora’s Waldron Martins accidentally turned the ball into his own net in the 56th minute.
Despite their early resistance, Arpora Sporting struggled to recover from the quick flurry of goals and were unable to mount a comeback.
Referee cautioned three players during the match—Palav Murari, Saiesh Palyekar, and Sankesh Harmalkar received yellow cards for rough play.
Joshua D’Souza’s impactful performance earned him the Man of the Match award, presented by Babli Mandrekar.
