Following allegations by Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira that a cabinet minister – referred to as the “Godfather General” – was behind the assault on social activist Rama Kankonkar, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday defended the ongoing police investigation into the case.

Stating that some people have the habit of politicising every issue, Sawant said, “My police team will finalise the case, and I have full confidence in them.” The Chief Minister said the ongoing investigation will be thorough and police will determine the facts without interference.

Questioning the claim that Zenito Cardozo was the mastermind behind the incident, Ferreira had said Superintendent of Police Rahul Gupta’s statement was “suspicious,” suggesting it may be aimed at shielding the minister.
