In light of the cholera and diarrhoea cases, District Collector Egna Cleetus convened a meeting on Friday to evaluate health care facilities at Cutbona jetty.
“We have deliberated on various issues concerning the health of the crew members. A case of cholera was reported, along with 19 diarrhoea cases. Subsequently, 2,275 individuals were screened. Boat owners are further instructed to ensure the regular screening of their workers. Health Department officials are tasked with implementing periodic health awareness programmes, while the police are mandated to routinely verify health cards,” Cleetus said after the meeting.
Health officials apprised the collector of measures taken in response to the outbreak, while Cleetus directed the authorities to adopt preventative steps to avoid such incidents in the future.
The local panchayat has been instructed to construct barbed wire fencing around the vicinity. The Goa Human Resource Development Corporation will establish stringent security arrangements, while the Goa Waste Management Corporation has been told to implement an effective system for garbage collection and disposal. Officials are required to comply and submit an action-taken report at the next meeting.
The meeting included officials from the health department, police, and district administration, along with additional collectors and mamlatdars.
