Panaji: The planned closure of the highway stretch from O’Coqueiro Circle to Mall de Goa for facilitating the ongoing construction of six-lane flyover has been deferred following a request from Porvorim MLA and minister Rohan Khaunte.

Following Khaunte’s request, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday announced that there will be no closure of the road stretch at Porvorim until five-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations are over.

The move is aimed at avoiding the disruption of festival traffic, he said.

To manage vehicle movement during the flyover construction, authorities have temporarily split the one-way lane opposite Mall de Goa into two, allowing smoother flow toward Panaji during peak hours.

Additionally, traffic is being diverted via the internal BB Borkar Road to reduce congestion on the highway.

The Chief Minister said he has issued instructions to take a decision on the closure of roads after proper planning once five-day Chaturthi celebrations are over.

Motorists have been advised to follow diversion routes and exercise caution while navigating the area until construction is completed. Officials have assured that all necessary measures are in place to ensure commuter safety and minimise disruption.
