Panaji: The state government’s road accident claim scheme has disbursed approximately Rs 4.27 crore to claimants between 2022 and early 2026.

A total of 232 applications were received during this period.

“There are no cases where compensation has been approved but not disbursed,” said officials.

Six applications remain pending, including five from 2025 and one from 2026.

In 2022, 36 applications were filed, of which 34 were cleared and two rejected, with Rs 66.1 lakh disbursed. In 2023, 52 applications were received and Rs98 lakh was disbursed. The number remained at 52 in 2024, with payouts reaching Rs 1 crore.

In 2025, applications increased to 89, of which 80 were cleared and Rs1.59 crore disbursed, while five remain pending. In 2026, three applications have been received so far, one of which remains pending, with Rs 4 lakh disbursed.

Rejections were linked to procedural requirements, including non-submission of FIRs, residential and income certificates. One claim was rejected as the accident occurred outside the state, and another on eligibility grounds.

As per data, constituencies such as Navelim, Curtorim, Cuncolim, Cortalim, Ponda, Sanguem and Sanvordem reported a higher number of claims.

Records showed that causes of accidents included rash and negligent driving, self-accidents and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police stations in Panaji, Mapusa, Porvorim, Anjuna, Bicholim and Pernem in the North, and Verna, Cuncolim, Ponda, Maina Curtorim and Fatorda in the South, reported a higher number of cases.
